Your Western Mass. Realtor: 5 Questions

You want to work with a Western Mass realtor to buy or sell a home, but you're not sure how to find the right person.  Below are some questions to ask candidates that will help you determine the right match.

1. How long have you worked as a licensed real estate agent in Massachussets?
Learn about the realtor's work history and get a feel for his or her personality.  You want to find someone who's both knowledgeable and personable.

2. How many homes have you sold in this area and what is the average price?
The answer to this question can help you gauge not only the experience of the realtor, but also how well he or she negotiates prices in the local Western Mass market.

3. How many other buyers and sellers are you currently representing?
Find out how many other clients the realtor is serving, since you want to make sure he or she has the availability to take you on.

4. How will you help me find the perfect home?  Or, How will you help me sell my home?
Realtors are highly trained specialists.  Ask them specifically about the kind of assistance they can offer for your search or sale.  If they sell you with their pitch, odds are they'll also sell prospective buyers or sellers!

5. How will you be paid for your time and efforts?
Make sure you fully understand the commission structure before entering into an agreement with a realtor.  You don't want to be surprised by the bill at the end of the process.

Knowing the answers to these questions will help you choose the Western Mass realtor who is right for you.
