Selling A Northampton House: The Outside

Most Northampton home sellers are so focused on preparing the interior of their homes that they completely forget that the outside of the home is just as important.  After all, it's the first thing prospective buyers see as they visit the property!

Here are some tips for selling the outside of your Amherst or Northampton house.

1.  Tidy up your yard.  A manicured lawn and pruned shrubbery can be very appealing.  Also remove excess clutter and debris like toys and automotive parts.  Most buyers are not on the market for a major yard improvement project when searching for a new Northampton home.

2.  Wash your home's exterior.  Rent a power rinsing machine for an afternoon and eliminate the dirt and mold from your siding and woodwork.  The Valley has a number of businesss that provide this kind of equipment. If outside surfaces need touching up, take the time to apply a fresh coat of paint.  You'll be amazed at what a difference washing and painting can make!

3.  Consider curb appeal.  Walk across the street and take a close look at your entryway.  Is it inviting?  There are simple, inexpensive things you can buy like a new door mat, some potted plants and or a first-rate mailbox that will give it a more fresh look.

4.  Create outdoor living spaces.  More and more buyers are interested in having outside areas to play and relax.  If you have a deck or patio, or even if you don't, it's easy to set up a table and chairs in a quiet part of your yard to show the outdoor living potential of your home.

5.  Invest in necessary updates.  If you have an older Northampton home, think about investing in energy efficient windows and replacing the roof.  Yes, it's an added expense, but buyers will usually try to negotiate a lower price if these sort of updates are required.

Giving buyers a good first impression of your home from the outside gets them excited about heading inside for a closer look!  Taking the time to tend to the outside of your home will definitely improve your selling potential.
